Huntingdon Freemen’s Trust is a registered charity run by a team of dedicated trustees and staff . We all have local knowledge and connections to Huntingdon and many of us have lived and worked here. We know the town very well and spend a lot of time assessing the needs of its residents and the value the towns open spaces provide.
With a heritage that goes back nearly 1000 years, we take the long-term survival of the Trust very seriously. Over the last 20 plus years our assets have grown to more than £12 million. These assets are held in trust, and our job is to manage them so that they continue to provide a benevolent fund for the residents of Huntingdon for many years to come.
Grants are paid from income earned through our investments and from the farm land we own in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Bedfordshire. We also have a team of specialist advisors and fund managers who help and advise us on the best way forward.
We are monitored by the Charity Commission and can only operate according to our mandate. That means we are not allowed to spend money on services that the Government or local councils are supposed to provide, but we can supplement them. This allows us to focus all our activities on helping local people and organisations.
